May 06, 2025

We are thrilled to announce that Scott Stanford has been honored with the esteemed Woodworth Memorial Award, the highest honor an agent can receive from the national Big “I”, the nation's most prominent trade association representing over 20,000 insurance agencies. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate an uncommon dedication to the industry and the association—a quality that Scott has exemplified throughout his distinguished career.

For more than four decades, Scott has tirelessly served the insurance industry and his community. As President of the Stanford Agency in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, he has been a steadfast advocate for independent agents and brokers. His leadership has extended to the national Big “I” Board of Directors, where he represented New Jersey for over a decade, significantly impacting the industry through his work on key initiatives. His tenure included chairing the Agency Administrative Services Board, the Big “I” Markets Task Force, and, importantly, the Governance Task Force, which modernized the national association’s governance and improved efficiency. Additionally, Scott served on the InsurPac Board of Trustees, earning the prestigious Barney Burns Award in 2002 for his outstanding efforts.

At the state level, Scott played a pivotal role in advancing the independent agency system. As Chair of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey (2003-2004), he was a strong advocate for the passage of the 2003 New Jersey Auto Insurance Reform Act, bringing lasting improvements for both consumers and agents. His leadership extended to the New Jersey Young Agents Committee, and his passion for mentoring new leaders continues to shape the future of the industry. In recognition of his dedication, he was awarded Big I New Jersey’s Howard A. Kucher Award.

Beyond his professional contributions, Scott has also made a significant impact at the local level, leading mergers of Big “I” county associations and establishing a vibrant Central New Jersey Association. He has organized countless events, strengthening the network of independent agents. His deep commitment to service extends beyond the insurance industry—he has volunteered as an EMT, served on numerous town boards and committees, and remains a selfless contributor to his community.

Scott Stanford’s leadership in insurance technology, governance, markets, legislative affairs, and finance has left an indelible mark on the Big “I” and the industry. His unwavering dedication continues to inspire and elevate independent agents and brokers nationwide.
